...because these things matter

Compulsive overeating and binge eating

Compulsive overeaters binge but, unlike those with bulimia, they do not get rid of the food immediately.

People can abuse food in many different ways, and some can become very overweight. They may feel that they have lost their ability to control their eating or to cope with their lives. Compulsive overeaters often feel they are bad or inadequate because they cannot control their eating.

There are many different reasons why someone may overeat. Some simply need good advice on how to eat a healthy diet. Some use food for the same emotional reasons as those experiencing other eating disorders such as anorexia or bulimia; to escape from problems or difficult feelings, to hide from things in their life they cannot control or are not happy with.

If you think you or somebody you know is a compulsive overeater or a binge-eater it is important that you get some support. If you can, talk to a friend or relative that you trust, a teacher or your GP, or click on the other links in this section to find out some more useful contacts.
